Papa has a 199? Chevy Tahoe 4 wheel drive truck that he purchased used about 5 years ago. It has been a real money pit. After years of getting this & that fixed, we decided to get it all fixed up so we didn't need to budget so much for vehicle repairs in 2014. So in 2013, we spent over $2,000 getting the transmission, air conditioning, breaks, suspension, etc. fixed. He even got the points, plugs and wires replaced. He mentioned a couple weeks ago that it sounded like he had a valve issue. When I asked why it was causing trouble again, he replied the only thing he didn't replace was the engine. He was hoping to get through the holidays before having to mess with it. It was not to be.
When Papa was heading into town on Sunday evening, the truck blew the engine and broke down about 5 miles from the farm. He called AAA and an hour later, a tow truck appeared. He had the truck towed to our house in the city, 95 miles from the farm. He thought it would be easier to get the engine replaced here than at the farm. Since all his meds were still at the farm, he took my car and drove back down that night. He came back to the city again the next day since he had an appointment here. He spent the day on Tuesday, when he was having trouble getting around, working the phone to find a used engine. Imagine where he found an affordable engine? That's right, in the town nearest the farm! So now, he needs to find a truck he can borrow to go down, pick up the engine, deliver it to our mechanic here in the city and then get the truck towed over there.
He wouldn't feel quite so pressed to get it fixed but we loaned our spare car to our darling daughter. Her van has been down & Papa was going to fix it. Unfortunately, he didn't "get around to it" prior to surgery. Looks like she'll either have to take it to the mechanic or wait a while to get it back now. Oh, and my car has just been recalled for transmission problems. It's going to have to take it's turn getting into the shop. If I didn't know better, I'd think the cars huddle up in the driveway and plot against us.
When we were kids, Daddy always said he'd get all the cars fixed when his ship came in. We finally asked why he wanted a ship since we didn't live anywhere near water.
God is good. Blessings from our tiny farm.
